In their recent report, global commercial real estate services and investment management firm Jones Lang LaSalle named Boston as the top life science hub in the US.

To earn the top spot, the Massachusetts-based metropolitan city beat out nearby hubs such as the New York / New Jersey area, as well as major hubs on the west coast such as San Francisco and San Diego – which as it so happens, has also fallen quite a bit in the rankings – across five out of six categories measured in the firm’s report. Among the categories in which Boston successfully bested other US life science hubs, the list includes total number of science and engineering graduate students, total R&D spending as a percent of the GDP, and total NIH funding to name a few.
